If you find yourself with an injury, one of the worst things you can do is not follow through on care.
When a patient comes to see me for an injury, I first assess the injury, and then together we create the best plan for their recovery. This may include a series of treatments over a period of several weeks. My goal is to not only heal their injury, but to also help them prevent future injuries by ensuring their muscles and joints are stronger than they were BEFORE the injury.
There are 3 phases of healing:
Phase 1: Pain Resolution
Phase 2: Return to Full Joint Mobility & Range of Motion
Phase 3: Resume Full Activities
In order to accelerate your healing process and increase the likelihood of full recovery, it’s imperative you follow through on all 3 phases. If you don’t, you’ll find yourself dealing with the injury much longer than you should or even worse, suffer a re-injury later down the road.
I often hear of patients that stop going to physical therapy after just a few visits or once the pain is gone, thinking they don’t need any more help. This couldn't be further from the truth. While you may be excited to be rid of the pain, however that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t continue your full plan of care. It’s important that you get through all 3 phases to prevent re-injury due to scar tissue and adhesions that form.
Skipping out on Phase 2 means that adhesions caused by scar tissue causes limited range of motion and limited flexibility for the rest of your life. This limited range of motion puts excess stress on the injured joint and surrounding muscles. Even though you have no pain, your muscle is still weak from injury so it becomes overtaxed, creating the perfect environment for re-injury.
How do we get you through Phase 3, the point where you get to resume full activity? It all starts with Craniosacral Therapy. In a nutshell, this type of therapy enhances the body’s own natural healing processes to help you heal faster. Combined with Myofascial Release and Dry Needling, Craniosacral Therapy will get you through the 3 phases of healing even more quickly.
You may be asking yourself, what about chiropractic care? Seeing your chiropractor to help your injury is a good idea, but it can only compliment Craniosacral Therapy, Dry Needling and Myofascial Release. One does not work without the others, you actually need a combination of all four treatments to heal that injury properly, for life.
